Art in the Alley

An "Artsy" Women's Clothing Boutique

Two ribbon cuttings. Same date. Same location. Exactly 5 years apart.

Dan Edmunds

Coincidence? We think not.  The universe has no coincidences...there is a plan bigger than we think.

5 years ago today we opened out cute little Art in the Alley-HOME store in the old Norshor Theater building.  It was the same fun, colorful, happy place...for home decor items, as the boutique is for clothing & accessory items.  It was "Dan's Store"...it was a man cave.  It was where he could go to work on painting & refurbishing furniture...and it was about 5 years ahead of its time.

We knew when we took over the space in the dirty old theater, that it was "temporary".  We were renting directly from the city of Duluth.  They told us we could have the space until the start of the Norshor Theater rennovation.  We were happy to have this quirky old space on Superior Street, just across the street from our clothing boutique.  It was easy to pass customers back and forth on a daily basis, and we were able to "clean up" the dirty old theater space...adding our Art in the Alley colorful swirls and exciting window displays to an otherwise dark and dismal side of Superior Street.

Five years ago today we held our ribbon cutting for our HOME store.  We were happy and excited to begin a new endeavor.

Fast forward five years.

Today Dan and I were back in our HOME store, at yet another ribbon cutting.

This time it was the ribbon cutting for the Grand Opening of the Norshor Theater!

Yes, two ribbon cuttings.  Same date. Same location. Exactly 5 years apart.

What are the chances for us to be able to participate in both in our lifetime?

One in a million...perhaps.

All I know is that there are no coincidences.

Everything happens for a reason.

We are downtown Duluth.  We love downtown Duluth.  We are proud to be a part of downtown Duluth.

Although we had to say good bye to our Art in the Alley-HOME store 5 years ago, we knew we would be part of a bigger picture, a bigger downtown, a bigger arts district.

Today we are there.  Standing with other hard working visionaries in our community.  Celebrating the history that we are now able to continue...for at least 100 more years.

Thank you for believing in your downtown.

Welcome home beautiful theater.  We've been waiting for you.

Tami Love

Tami Edmunds

Tami Love is spreading across the Duluth/Superior area!

As you may have seen on the news or Facebook; Tami, our amazing owner, has been diagnosed with cancer.  Its a big scary word, but she has a great prognosis and is eternally optimistic about her cure.  As of this week, she half way through her treatment.  She has created her Tami Love necklaces while convalescing. We call it "Love therapy"!  Tami wants everyone to know she is doing well, and is working on necklaces as she can.  Energy and creativity are a premium for her, and rest and recuperation are her first goal.

A little about our Tami Love necklaces! The pendants are individually made and fired by artists, so each will be a unique item. Tami then takes that pendant and creates a necklace around it with love.  She puts effort and care into making each one.  Each pendant is inscribed with "I am Abundant Health" on the back, and that is what Tami hopes to convey.  She wishes you, and herself, abundant health.

Thanks to everyone who has purchased a Tami Love necklace, and thank you to those who will.  She appreciates her customers much more than you know.

Working on our new class schedule!

We're starting up our fabulous classes again in February!  There has been a lot of demand for them to come back.  We'll have several of our in-shop artists teaching a variety of classes.  They'll all be at the mall within walking distance of a ton of great food and shopping.  we're working on getting the schedule and information on the website so look for it soon!  You can of course, contact either store and we'll give you the scoop.

My outdoor art studio...

Tami Edmunds

I am happiest when sitting in the sun on the shores of "my lake".   The level of inspiration I get from Lake Superior is overwhelming.  A gal just walked by and told me I'm "living the dream".  I couldn't agree more.

Creating jewelry @ Brighton Beach

Dan Edmunds

Tami is relaxed, enjoying a day in the sun on the shores of Lake Superior.  She is inspired by the endless blues of the lake & sky, and the vibrant colors in her tie dye skirt.  The beads are simply her way of talking to you without using words...the beads do all of the talking for her.  She is in her "creative happy zone".

Chalk-In at Art in the Alley

Sydney Jones

We had placed a chalk board at the front of our store a couple weeks ago to see where all of our artsy people were from! It's amazing to see some of the locations of our shoppers. This is a small world after all. We ask that you come "chalk in" at our downtown location and enjoy our beautiful displays, one of a kind pieces, clothing, and art!!!!

At approximately 5:30 today, a "fashion emergency" entered our downtown store.  A woman came in wearing a sleeveless dress.  Turns out it was 80 degrees when she left her home in Mpls, but was only 55 when she arrived in Dulith.  She and her husband had been in the store last Decembet, so it was their first stop in their attempt to correct her "fashion emergency".   I'm glad to report we found her a cute long sleeve dress, flowing vest & matching necklace...all in less than 10 minutes.  She left the store looking fantastic.  Mission accomplished.  Glad we could be of assistance in this "fashion emergency."
